Active Shooter Training Video

Who Made It and Why It Was Free

Early in 2013, Chris Grollnek formed a team of Active Shooter and Terrorism Prevention Experts to create a first-of-its-kind free active shooter prevention video for the Country. The cast includes Chris Grollnek, Dave “Bo” Bolgiano, Dr. Morgan Banks, Ph.D. (U.S. Army Ret), and U.S. Army Colonel Jim Patterson. This partnership with Parroco Television was to produce a basic Active Shooter Survival Video for corporate and scholastic America.

Chris brought in specialty consultants for the video produced by Parroco Television in Virginia Beach. As a result, the video became one of the “go-to” national resources for active shooter prevention and awareness training.

The video was free on purpose. In 2013 the material that existed was either locked behind a vendor or written for police, and neither helped a receptionist, a teacher or a shift supervisor. So we built one for them and gave it away.

The people in it

Dr. Morgan Banks, Ph.D. U.S. Army, retired. Behavioural science.
Dave “Bo” Bolgiano Use of force and the law around it.
U.S. Army Colonel Jim Patterson Command perspective and planning.
Chris Grollnek Former U.S. Marine and retired police detective corporal.

Produced with Parroco Television in Virginia Beach, with specialty consultants brought in for the sections that needed them.

Why it still matters

It became one of the go to national resources for active shooter prevention and awareness training, and the reason is not production value. It is that it starts before the attack rather than during it. Most training still opens at the sound of the first shot. This one opens months earlier, where the behaviour is visible and something can still be done about it.

That sequence is the same argument that later became the P.R.O. Model™, a national standard selected by the U.S. Department of Justice across 2022–2025 and 2026–2030 and in use at some installations and commands across the Department of Defense across multiple installations.
